Review of Council’s Strategic Plan – Community Consultation

Council’s Strategic Plan in its current general layout was adopted prior to the commencement of the 2006/07 financial year. This layout is different to other organisation’s Strategic Plans as it provides the five Strategic Themes along with their respective and associated underpinning aims. For example the objective of the Strategic Theme of Infrastructure is ‘The need to maintain, improve and maximise the Community benefit from infrastructure provided by Council’.

Start of Work at Mud Walls Secondary Road from 12 February 2024

The Department of State Growth will be doing road works on a 2.5 kilometre section of Mud Walls Secondary Road as part of the Freight Capacity Upgrade Program. The works are located between the towns of Campania and Colebrook. The Freight Capacity Upgrade Program is a jointly funded Australian and Tasmanian Governments initiative and aims to improve safety for all road users.

Local input on design of new youth facility

Local residents and businesses will be asked for input into the master planning and design of Tasmania’s new youth justice detention facility.

Following the Tasmanian Government’s announcement that 466 Brighton Road, Pontville is the preferred site for the new facility, the Department for Education, Children and Young People has commenced further site assessments, including natural values and Aboriginal heritage.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch said it was important the local community is kept informed about the project.

Fire Permits are required in Southern Municipalities until the end of the 2023-24 bushfire season.

From 2am tomorrow (Tuesday 3 October 2023) Fire Permits are required in Southern Municipalities until the end of the 2023-24 bushfire season.

If you have a property in a Southern municipality and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic meter in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit, by contacting your local fire brigade or calling Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699.
