Youth Justice Facility Brighton

The new Tasmanian Youth Justice Facility requires a Discretionary planning approval from Southern Midlands Council (the Planning Authority).  The development application must be publicly advertised for a period not exceeding 14 days, from 17th November with the plans and reports available for the public to view online and at Council’s offices in Kempton and Oatlands. View the Development Application.

Any person can make a representation in support or in opposition to the planning application. A representation must be in writing and should state the reasons why the application should be supported or reasons for objection. All representations received are considered by Council.

Representations should be lodged no later than 4.30 pm on 1st December 2025.  Late representations will not be accepted. Representations must be lodged in the form of a letter addressed to;

After the advertising period, the development application will likely go to Council as Planning Authority for determination on Wednesday 10th December, 2pm at Kempton Council Chamber.  Council Officers will prepare a report, with a recommendation for approval (with or without conditions) or refusal.
