Young Community Members
Council supports several programs aimed at the young people in our municipality, as well as collaborating with other organisations to ensure a vibrant and active ongoing program of events and activities is in place.
At least twice per annum , Family Fun days / Health Expo’s are held in various townships spread throughout the municipality . These are mainly aimed at 0-6 and 0-12 year olds , and their parents . With the support of Reclink and other groups , Council provides a Youth Football League roster series of matches , culminating in a Gala Day usually held at North Hobart oval in September each year. The teams come from far and wide , and Southern Midlands provides two teams of the six participating , namely the Campania Cats from Campania District High School [ with assistance from Bothwell High ] and the Southern Midlands Hawks from Oatlands District High School .
Council , in conjunction with Communities for Children and the Oatlands Rural Primary Health Service , also conduct an interesting and varied School Holiday Program during all school term breaks . Please refer to our Community Notice Board section for current program details.
There are two very active youth groups in the southern midlands area , one at Campania brilliantly run by several local volunteers and who meet on Friday nights [ excluding school term breaks ] for fun and frivolity , and the other called BREATH at Oatlands which is open to all local youths and is run by the Oatlands District High School .

YOUTH SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM
School Holiday Program - January 2017
Day 1 Tuesday 17th January 2017
Day 1- we’re going to the Zoo! Come and get close up to some of nature’s fascinating creatures living at Zoo Doo in Tea Tree. After a morning safari session we’ll drop into Richmond to have our picnic lunch (BYO) by the river before heading off to the Littlewood Strawberry Farm. We will each get to pick our own 500g punnet of fresh strawberries to take home!
Day 2 Tuesday 24th January 2017
Day 2 has us off again on out annual trip up North to splash around at the brilliant Launceston Aquatic Centre. We’ll have a picnic lunch with the monkeys at City Park then head on to the pool for a couple of hours of swimming, diving, splashing and water-sliding! Don’t forget your bathers, towel, sunhat and sunscreen for this one – plus your picnic lunch and drink bottle PTO for booking information
Age limits of 9 – 16 apply and numbers are limited.
Please dress appropriately for the relevant activities.
BYO LUNCH snacks, drinks, sun hat and sunscreen for BOTH days.
(No energy drinks please)
A kiosk is available at the Aquatic Centre. Please keep spending money to a minimum.
Any participants with significant medical conditions should provide a full emergency plan and appropriate medication/treatment – Failure to do so will result in exclusion from program/s.
Register your interest in a booking through Council’s Kempton office on 6259 3011 during office hours.
Parent permission forms are required for all excursions and medical history forms are also required for all children. Current medical forms held expire after 6 months.
Don’t forget your bathers and towel for Day 2
If you find that your child is unable to attend prior to the day’s excursion, please let us know immediately as we invariably have waiting lists for each day.
