Works to Heritage Properties and Buildings

The Southern Midlands Planning Scheme lists places and precincts in the Southern Midlands of heritage value. Any proposed use or development to a heritage place, or place within a heritage precinct, requires a discretionary planning application to be made.

Works such as minor maintenance or repair may also require planning approval. Please contact Council’s Planning Officer on 03 6254 5050 to determine if a Development Application is required to assess the works. Some works may require further approval from The Tasmanian Heritage Council.

Is my place Heritage Listed?

To check if your place in Tasmania is heritage listed you can use the Discover Heritage Search Portal provided by Heritage Tasmania. This portal allows you to search for places listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register by name or address. If your place does not appear on the register, you can also check with your local council, as it may be heritage protected under their planning scheme.
