Midland Highway Bus Stop Upgrades - Bagdad

Midland Highway Bus Stop Upgrades - Bagdad

The Department of State Growth is upgrading two bus stops on the Midland Highway to improve accessibility, safety, and comfort for all users.

The project is part of a broader initiative to enhance public transport infrastructure across Tasmania, making bus travel more convenient and reliable, and improving access to public transport for people with disabilities.

The Midland Highway northbound site, outside the Bagdad Roadhouse, will have an extended waiting area, a staircase replaced with a ramp, and new handrails and textured ground markers to assist vision-impaired pedestrians.

The Midland Highway southbound site, near East Bagdad Road in Bagdad, will have a new median island cut-through for safer pedestrian access and textured ground markers to assist vision-impaired pedestrians.

 Construction information

Work at the Midland Highway, Bagdad (northbound) site will begin on Monday, 19 May 2025, and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2025.

Work at the Midland Highway, Bagdad (southbound) site will begin on Thursday, 29 May 2025, and is expected to be completed by early June 2025.

Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

A reduced speed limit will be in place to allow the work to be completed safely. Please allow for some extra travel time.

Bus stops will remain open during construction but the northbound stop will be temporarily relocated approximately 100 metres north with safe and clearly marked pedestrian access in place.
