Staged Building Permits

Building work can be undertaken in stages and a permit can be applied for which will cover only one stage. (Building Act s69), however Building Regulation 19 states that: 'the granting of a building permit to carry out a stage of building work is not an assurance that any further building permit will be granted in respect of the entire, or a further stage of, building work'.

If you are planning to carry out a multi unit development and want to Strata the units and sell them individually, it might be better that you apply for individual Building Permits because a Certificate of Completion can only be given once all the works are completed under that permit.  In other words Council cannot give you staged Completion Certificates.
