
Mailing Your Payment
Please detach the payment slip from your rate notice and return it together with your cheque or money order. When remitting payments please make cheques or money orders payable to the Southern Midlands Council and marked "not negotiable".
Paying in Person
Rates and Charges may be paid at either of the Municipal Offices situated at 71 High Street, Oatlands and Main Street, Kempton or any Australia Post Office between 9.00 am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday (Kempton Office closed from 12.30 to 1.00 pm daily).
Payment by Phone
Phone payments can be accepted for holders of VISA, Mastercard or Bankcard by calling 1300 729 859. Note: please have your Notice of Rates and Charges with you when paying by phone. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Payment by Internet

Centrepay
Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment, simply call Centrelink or contact the Southern Midlands Council on (03) 6254 5000 to request a Centrepay deductions form.

Instalments
Late Payments
A penalty of 5% applies to any rate or charge that is not paid on or before the date it falls due.
In addition to the penalty, interest under section 128 of the Local Government Act 1993 will be charged at the rate of 9.5% per annum, calculated monthly.
Discount
A discount of 1.1% will apply to all rates and charges paid in full within 30 days after the date of issue. This is the due date of the first instalment. This discount is not applicable to rates and charges which are paid in instalments.
Pensioner Remissions
Eligible pensioners are advised that they have until the 31st of March 2008 to apply for a remission on the 2007/2008 rates and charges. This only applies where the remission has not already been calculated and deducted from the rate notice.
