Sport and Recreation are important components of the lifestyle enjoyed by residents and visitors to the municipality, and the Council has sought to provide reasonable access to a range of facilities and services.
The Partnership Agreement between the Tasmanian Government and the Council identified the need to prepare a Recreation Plan as a key initiative for the Southern Midlands.
The goal of the study was to develop a plan that provides the framework for future policy and decision-making on sporting and recreational issues specific to the Southern Midlands. A strong emphasis was that it delivers realistic recommendations that are affordable, achievable, for the long term benefit of the community and consistent with State strategic directions for community sport and recreation development.
Council have finalised the Southern Midlands Recreation Plan and welcome comment from the public in regard to this plan. Comments should be addressed to the General Manager, PO Box 21, Oatlands 7120 or mail@southernmidlands.tas.gov.au.

The questionaires that form Appendix C from the final report are listed below in two separate documents:
The attached document has been designed to assist Service Clubs, Sporting Bodies and Community Organisations in the successful and safe running of public events within the Southern Midlands local government area.
The document does not purport to cover every single issue that you as the event organiser might face but rather to assist you by highlighting a number of key considerations you should be aware of when organising such an event.
Not every issue covered in this guide will apply to your organisation, or necessarily to the event that you are involved in, you should identify those parts of the guide that do apply and deal with them in the appropriate manner.
If you feel that any particular issue should be added to or altered in any way or any new issue added the Southern Midlands Council would welcome such advice. Suggestions should be forwarded by mail to Southern Midlands Council, PO Box 21, Oatlands, by fax to (03) 64545014, or by email to abenson@southernmidlands.tas.gov.au.
A thorough planning process provides the strong foundation of an enjoyable event that will live on in the minds of all who have participated, be that as an organiser, a participant or as a spectator.
